Our Story

Sexual assault survivorship is a daily struggle that is long-term. The effects of this crime are catastrophic for survivors and survivor supporters, our friends, our family and the economy. The lack of social acceptance of and emotional connection for members of the sexual assault community worsens these effects and can make daily life more difficult.

GOTU (pronounced /gō・too/) was founded in 2020, by a sexual assault survivor who realized the lack of readily available support resources and the impact it had on her wellness. Per her connection with other survivors, it became clear that mainstream resources, such as therapy and group sessions, are not feasible for all survivors. Survivorship is a 24/7 effort that needs attention outside of scheduled sessions with a professional and pockets of time when friends and family can be available.

The app was developed to help reduce feelings of isolation and shame by providing a community of empathetic resources who want to connect, be empowered and achieve personal wellness. GOTU celebrates those persons who have been victimized by sexual assault and choose to work through the trauma. GOTU is a call to action to encourage victimized persons to stand back up after the assault.

Our goal is to maintain a safe space where members of the sexual assault community can share without fear of exposure, judgement or retaliation. We want all survivors to be in a better position to help themselves and educate others.
