2024 Recipient: Jeremy Indika

Jeremy Indika is an automotive engineer who has worked on teams that have designed and built some of the world’s top luxury vehicles. He made his pivot into activism after seeking accountability from the man who sexually abused him as a child. Failed by the system, Jeremy persevered beyond that upset and turned his efforts to warn children of this type of danger and what to do about it.

Equipped with his life experience and a strong ability to engage his audiences, Jeremy has become a top voice in the United Kingdom to speak out against sexual abuse of children. He is singlehandedly working to educate our youth about sexual violence and abuse while dismantling the false beliefs around “safe” people.

Jeremy Indika is a 2024 GOTU Crucial Point Award Recipient for his work in Youth Empowerment & Perception Erasure.

During a Q&A session, we had the opportunity to learn about Jeremy, his amazing work and perceptions about survivorship.

Question: How has sexual assault impacted you? How many years have you been a survivor?

Jeremy’s Answer: The sexual assault has impacted my heart. I know what it feels like to be a child who was exploited for their body and innocent nature. So now I have dedicated my life to ensuring that no more children go through this. I’ve been a survivor since the first day the man that did this to me chose me as a target.

Question: What does healing look like for you? And, what does justice look like for you? Are they both intertwined?

Jeremy’s Answer: Healing to me is problem solving this crime to improve our understanding and therefore put us in the best chance of prevention. Justice for me is getting this man monitored for the rest of his life; his job, online activity and access he has to other children. They both come hand in hand.

Question: What big thing have you learned about sexual assault survivorship?

Jeremy’s Answer: That anything is possible.

Question: Why do you think rates of sexual violation continue to increase despite increased awareness?

Jeremy’s Answer: They continue to increase because the access to children has never been greater. Back in the day you would need to have direct physical access to a child. Now you can go online, use AI software to personalise messages that suit different children and send out 1000’s of contacts in one click and wait to see who bites the bait.

Question: What do you have to say to survivors who want to come forward about being victimized?

Jeremy’s Answer: Hear my story. I talk a lot about the benefits I got through releasing my childhood. And if it’s still something you are interested in doing. Then go for it and hold on tight. It’s challenging.

Question: What advice would you give to someone who may receive news about a friend or family member’s victimization?

Jeremy’s Answer: Support them. Learn more. Right now is when they need you.
